“We have to be very careful how we conduct our life, because that is what destiny is all about.”20160212_MON_8140

This quote is from one of the messages given by Kamlesh D. Patel, the fourth and current spiritual guide of the Sahaj Marg tradition. He offers clear ideas on what we can all do to grow in the spiritual life.

Kamlesh bhai, as he prefers to be called, was born in Gujarat. From an early age he was interested in spirituality and meditation. While still a student of pharmacy in Ahmedabad in 1976, he met his first spiritual Guide, Ram Chandra of Shahjahanpur (Babuji), the Founder-President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission.

After graduating, he moved to the USA, and became a successful pharmacist in New York City, while continuing his spiritual practice. After Babuji’s passing in 1983, Kamlesh bhai continued as the devotee of Parthasarathi Rajagopalachari (Chariji), Babuji’s successor. During the last twenty years, he has held a number of responsible roles within SRCM, and has supported the growth of the organisation in many parts of the world. He was announced as Chariji’s successor in October 2011, and given the position of Vice-President of SRCM in August 2012.

Following the passing of Chariji on the 20th of December 2014, he became the spiritual Guide of the Sahaj Marg system of Raja Yoga meditation and President of SRCM.

Kamlesh bhai has always been a person with a total focus on his spiritual evolution, while integrating this with his worldly life. While living in New York, he carried on the daily work in his pharmacies, involving considerable commuting, endless hours of standing to serve customers and training others. He took any and every chance to be with Babuji and Chariji, however uncomfortable the travelling might have been. He has a vast appetite for books and is prolific with his own personal research work in the field of science and spirituality.

Kamlesh bhai travels constantly these days, visiting centres and ashrams around the world. A no-fuss person, with seemingly infinite patience to carry out the vision of his Guides, he is a prolific speaker and a role model for students of spirituality who seek that perfect blend of Eastern heart and Western mind.
